Tai Chi originated as a self-defense martial art in China several centuries ago. Over time, it has involved into a gentle aeriobic exercise. During doing Tai Chi moves, one needs to have good balance, leg strength, and flexibility while performing smooth and gentle movements. Practitioners remain relaxed and focused throughout the moves, which is why Tai Chi is often called “meditation in motion.”

Like other Martial arts, Tai Chi also has its list of ethical standards that dedicated practioners are expected to abide to. Here is a list of Do’s and Don’ts from Chen Style Tai Chi.

Most Tai Chi movements are gentle and smooth, making them accessible and welcoming to many people. Some are faster moves that younger people may like.

You may sign up to group practices or individual classes. About the classes:

* Authentic: For 23 years and practiced daily, the instructor learned the real forms from grandmasters like Zhenglei Chen, whose ancestors developed the orginal Tai Chi moves. It is very important to learn the authentic details to make sure your moves are accurate, and to know the purpose of moves (not just waving slowly without reason), to avoid knee injury from improper posture, and to benefit your health.
* More attention from instructor, and make real progress. In a private class, you select a time slot that suits you, receive the instructor’s complete attention, and make steady progress at your own pace. Group classes typically have fewer than five participants, allowing for more personalized attention compared to larger groups.
